Part 7 – Heading to Cape Town

img_0608-21.jpgThe Shark Diving finished around lunchtime so we stopped and had a quick bite to eat then hit the local grocery store to stock up on much need Road Trip supplies.

At around 2pm we started the long journey to our final destination, Somerset West, a town about 30 minutes from Cape Town situated on he picturesque Helderberg mountains and just 15 minutes from the famous Winelands of Stellenbosch.

Through the meandering hills and mountains once more the landscape slowly started to heal my wandering soul.  There is something to be said about being on the road and allowing your mind to wonder as the scenery passes you by.  Farms galore with many little stops available to the inquisitive mind, food stalls are little mom and pop stores dot the landscape in many of the small towns on the way being older than some countries and still incorporate the old traditions, especially foods.

Half way to Somerset West we stopped off for divine coffee and food at Ou Meul Farmstall in Riviersonderend where fresh baked goods, hand made knickknacks and fresh air are bountiful. It has to be said that the Ou Meul has by far the most delicious and tasty pies in the world, and once you’ve tried one you will know I am not exaggerating at all.  Chicken, Steak and Kidney, Cornish (mince and vegetables) along with their desert pies will have you filled up, satisfied and going on your way with an extra bag of pies just in case you get hungry later.

After 4 hours on the road we hit Sir Lowrys Pass and were treated to a sunset like none other.   I can not begin to explain this feeling after so many years. I didn’t realize just how much I had missed it till I was there once again. I was finally home in the place which still flows within my veins.
