So many times in life we shy away from things because we have been hurt before, we shy away from the very things that we want most of all. The fear of disappointment can sometimes take over our need or want, hiding it into the oblivion and warping our perceptions. Those perceptions can often get thrown “helter skelter” and as we go on they get … Continue reading Give, Hope, Love, Live
It’s a hard life being a Superhero don’t you think? I mean you get up out of bed, put your special gear on, decide whether to put your underwear under your clothes or above, brush your sparklies in your mouth and hopefully your hairballs, don some funky kick ass shoes and start your day. You either walk or jump in your car mobile that is … Continue reading Being an Ordinary Superhero
Yesterday while out walking I caught a glimpse of my newly tanned legs sporting shorts that I haven’t fitted in to for years and was so chuffed with myself! I can’t tell you how exciting it was the fact that the mere sight of my bare skin didn’t cause my eyes to get glare cramp. Yip, you know the one where you look at something … Continue reading Self tanning for life
One day we wake up to find ourselves in the water without a lifeboat or buoy, nothing to help us float, we’re stuck with no way towards the land. We slowly start treading the water, at first its easy, our legs keep us going, our arms move slowly in the water. We stay a float, our heads are in the fresh air and things seem … Continue reading Keeping your head above water…
Do you remember as kids we were always staring into shiny surfaces, mirrors, water puddles and looking at our reflections and absorbing what we looked like. I remember staring at each part of me in wonder, fascinated at the fact that this was who I was, this was me, Audrey. I didn’t think anything special about the image staring back at me other than the … Continue reading Falling in Love with my Reflection
Jani just turned 43, she has 5 children and is the sole bread winner for her family. Each day she goes to homes to clean in order to make enough money to feed her children and to put them through school. Her eldest, Ami, was just 21 when a friend of hers uttered the words “Come on just one hit, feel what I feel, it … Continue reading The Life of TIK
Just a normal box of smarties, a box filled with candy coated chocolate orbs of heaven. Would that same box hold the same pleasure if all the chocolate inside was coated in one colour? Would it still be fun? As a kid I would love separating all the colours and then eating one by one, I’d count how many reds, how many blues, greens, oranges … Continue reading Smarties are the World
Before you read on, please know that this post is both long and detail filled with graphic imagery and the likes there of. It is not intended to upset anyone nor is it for any purpose other than to explain reflexes, the dangers there of and how hard it is to unlearn them.
Its odd how one learns something so innately life changing, what brings it about so profound. All mammals including humans have both instinctual and learned reflexes that we use in every day to day life. These reflex’s protect us and sustain us, it is how we react to things and the people in our lives.
Ever walked into a room and there up on the wall sits a photo or painting that is skew. Does it drive you nuts or do you not care?
Don’t know about you but it drives me insane. Perhaps this is just the Virgo in me coming out but I feel forced to correct it with haste. That said I can’t always reach it without finding a ladder first, sometimes they are just too high up for my tallness.
Now lets say you didn’t correct it, you are aware of it and you have a whole bunch of friends over. The whole time everyone is laughing and having fun you are slightly unsettled. Your mind keeps drifting back to that skew picture up on the wall keeping you from enjoying the moment fully. You laugh but it isn’t fully. You smile but it isn’t fully. There is something else on your mind.
If you had accepted that the painting is skew and had peace with the fact that, no matter what, it will remain like that would you be able to enjoy the party more fully? Would you be able to be fully “in the moment”?
A little while ago I read Hayden’s Women Need Protecting (incredible) and then today it cropped up again in Joy’s post Safety tips for children (equally incredible) and it all got me to thinking. Sometimes we take our personal safety for granted, we take the safety of our kids for granted. Perhaps we take our lives for granted. They say that living in Africa you … Continue reading If you were stranded on a deserted island…?
