This is hands down one of my favourites by Jack Johnson, a song that holds such truth in our daily lives. We all go through rough times, it’s how we look at them that determines how we get through them…
It’s really too bad
He became a prisoner of his own past
He stabbed the moment in the back with the round thumbtack
That held up the list of things he got to do
It’s really no good
He’s moving on before he understood
He shot the future in the foot with every step he took
From the places that he’s been because he forgot to look
He better staple it together and call it bad weather
Staple it together and call it bad weather (X3) (mmHmm)
Well I guess you could say
That he don’t even know where to begin
Because he looked both ways but he was so afraid
Digging deep into the ditch every chance he missed
And the mess he made
Because hate is such a strong word
And every brick he laid a mistake they say
That his walls are getting taller, and his world is getting smaller
He better staple it together and call it bad weather
Staple it together and call it bad weather (X3) (mmHmm)
It’s really too bad
He became a prisoner of his own past
He stabbed the moment in the back with the round thumbtack
That held up the list of things he got to do
It’s really no good
He’s moving on before he understood
He shot the future in the foot with every step he took
From the places that he’s been cause he forgot to look
He better staple it together and call it bad weather
Staple it together and call it bad weather (X3)
If the weather gets better we should get together
Spend a little time or we could do whatever
And if we get together we’d be twice as clever
So staple it together and call it bad weather… (mmHmm)

How are you, lady? It’s been a while since I’ve visited. (Been busy building additional blogs.)
“He became a prisoner of his own past…” Isn’t it something how we do that sometimes?
I’m currently learning to forgive some things, and change the resulting conscious and unconscious beliefs I have about myself & life, so that I can release those energies and move on …and stop attracting similar negative experiences through self-limiting beliefs and fears.
WOW at both the first and second verses – this song is so meaningful. Methinks you gave me ideas to add to a future post. 🙂
This is great, SanityFound. 😀 Love it. Thank you!

Spirit you have been quiet and missed *sniff* was hoping you are ok but can’t comment on your blog… hmm… Glad you enjoyed this song and that the lyrics touched your soul, music is like that, sometimes all it takes is one song to spark off growth or to heal past wounds. Be good!

Awwww! Thank you so much, Sanity. So nice to know I was thought of.
About the blog, I know, but there’s commenting on my other three blogs. 😀 😀 That’s part of why I created them – to connect with the readership around certain ideas and create more of a community feel (this linked one in particular). Come by sometime.
Ah yes, the power of music – “soothes the savage soul”. Thank God for all the talented and spirited artists we have.
Cheers.
