Dear Humanity,
I think I’ve seen this film before, and I didn’t like the ending. You were my town, and now I’m in exile looking in through the clouded window, hoping for a glimpse of you.
You keep ignoring me, casting me aside as if I don’t matter. I really don’t know how else to get through to you so, I write this letter in one last ditch effort to get your mind, your heart and your soul’s attention.
I understand why you don’t hear me, I get it. This world has become an ever present noisy place filled with judgement, anger, rage, heartbreak, devastation, and loneliness… it has become a world where you, Humanity, have become a distant memory washed away by the pain none of us understand anymore for the constant thunderstorm in our ears.
But, Humanity, I have seen this film before. I didn’t like it then and I don’t like it now. Now it is on a global scale, not just behind the walls of tyrannical government.
Humanity… You are being manipulated. Straight up manipulated. And the mere fact that you want to stop reading this heartfelt letter to you now is exactly what I am talking about. I dare you, yes dare you, to not press the beloved x and to read on.
Pause. Breathe. I beg you, with the last shred of my own humanity… absorb my words, pause, think and then decide if you agree or not with what I say.
We used to be a human race that would hear something, pause, reflect, think, discuss and then make our own decisions. Now we hear something and find ourselves with triggers that catapult us towards anger, rage and judgement.
We used to listen to both sides of a story to figure out what the truth was in the middle.
We used to look people in the eye, smile, talk verbally to one another, ask questions – we used to ask humans questions! No, talking to yourself in the mirror because you need expert advice doesn’t count! Ok, sometimes it still does. These days we just head to Youtube for the answers.
We used to be a humanity that prided ourselves on remembering real history, events, lessons learnt including not repeating the 90’s fashion statements and things we never wanted repeated. We used to learn it in school, from our elders, the community. We respected history.
Children used to play in the streets, they used to hang out with their friends and learn basic morality and humanity from the proverbial village and not from filtered short videos and media, a fake world.
Pause and breathe, for what I am about to say takes the last shred of what I have to give.
We are becoming a humanity with destroyed friendships, families torn apart, and communities destroyed.
Humanity is overloaded by the noise. A noise that is well designed, manipulated and purposefully distributed. Agree or disagree, that is your human right, but the constant noise is distracting us from ourselves, from our families, from what truly matters. Us. Humans. We matter. It distracts us from being human.
We are so overloaded that we just want to switch our brains off and listen blindly. It takes too much energy to question. We are too busy surviving.
We don’t even have the energy to truly discuss anything in depth anymore… if we have different opinions we are shouted and raged at, judged and canceled. We just don’t have enough energy anymore to be human.
Humanity, I love you with my whole heart. But we are in serious trouble.
We need to step back and ask ourselves just who we are, where are we, what are we doing, what do we want, what truly matters. Truly ask ourselves without the noise or distractions. Ask.
If we took an hour a day to just turn it all off, I mean everything off, all that outside noise and listen to ourselves, to our hearts, our souls, our core, our inner beacon – what will we hear?
Will it matter that I am White, Black, Republican, Democrat, a questioning soul, humanitarian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, gay, straight… will it matter?
Turn off the TV, radio, social media platforms, google, YouTube, the list is endless. Turn it all off and reconnect with you. Reconnect with those you live with, your family, your children, nature, the world, strangers in the street, the person serving you coffee…
Take a step back and see the person in front of you… be it friend, foe or stranger and see the person for what they are. Human. A human with feelings, thoughts, opinions, dreams, passions and knowledge. A human with pain, loneliness, and so much more. They may be different from you but their heart beats just like yours…
Each one of us has a story. Our story.
Reconnect to what truly matters…
You.
Me.
Us.
Humanity.
Humanity, in one last effort, I challenge you.
I challenge you to share one good thing you experienced today instead of the meme.
I challenge you to do a random act of kindness without any expectation of something in return.
I challenge you to wave at the garbage collector, smile at a stranger, pay a drive through meal forward.
I challenge you to step back once a day and hear someone else with the mission to understand and not just respond.
I beg you Humanity, take the challenge. Do this for you, for your children and your children’s children.
Because for as long as we do not remember our own humanity there is no point at all. All the wonderful “Make the world better for our children” initiatives … there is no point to any of them because we will destroy the world through our own inhumanity.
I beg you Humanity. With all the love and compassion my soul has to give you, as the tears flow down my cheeks with the heartache of almost losing you… Please.
Stop. Breathe. Remember who we are, who we truly are.
We are one.
We are Ubuntu.
With love,

Sad yet I feel an important statement, perhaps a reminder to pause and smell the flowers, to enjoy the moment, to remember to live and be human… eat the cookie and share the second! I am ok just felt so strongly that this letter needed to be written. Hope all is well on your side! Keep being amazing you ❤️
